  • Abstract Most of the cities in Taiwan are facing the effects of ageing buildings in the old city center. After the September 21 earthquake in 1999, building codes were updated to increase the seismic strength requirements of buildings. In response to the new building regulations, the government has accelerated the urban renewal of developed urban areas. The topographical survey of this type of small area (1000-5000 ping) is mostly limited by the existing development methods. The efficiency of topographic mapping operations is affected by the fact that local residents are adding gates or additions to fire escapes. In many cases, topographic surveys cannot be completed in narrow alleys, making it difficult to integrate urban renewal and delaying the process.
In recent years, photogrammetry by drones has become more and more popular. This study focuses on the results of topographic surveys in small areas and is an attempt to use drones to assist topographic mapping. This study focuses on the results of topographic surveys in small areas. In this study, a consumer drone is used with an image camera to produce a 3D model with image matching operations under different altitude requirements of civil aviation regulations.
The model was used for mapping of features to understand the accuracy achieved and to analyze whether it could replace traditional topographic survey of ground objects. The result will accelerate the development and promotion of urban regeneration.
