| Title | A Study on the Practical Application of Cable-Free Construction Techniques for Steel Column Assembly | ||
| Keyword | |||
| Abstract | Abstract This study focuses on the practical application of cable-free construction techniques in steel column assembly. As urban construction sites become increasingly constrained, high-rise steel structures continue to grow, and higher standards for construction safety and schedule efficiency are required, traditional cable-bracing and hoisting methods have gradually revealed several limitations. These include limited working space, suspended-load swing, temporary stabilization requirements, worker exposure to high-risk areas, and additional costs associated with the installation and removal of steel cables. The cable-free method uses column connectors, guiding devices, temporary supports, and hydraulic or mechanical adjustment systems to provide stable support and accurate positioning during steel column erection and connection, thereby reducing uncertainties associated with conventional cable-based construction. The research adopts literature review, case study, comparative analysis, construction process analysis, and practical synthesis as its main methods. It examines the technical principles, equipment configuration, construction procedures, quality control, and safety management framework of the cable-free method. Based on practical experience from a steel structure project using a new type of column connector, this study further evaluates the method in terms of schedule, cost, safety, and construction quality. The findings indicate that the cable-free method can reduce cable installation and dismantling work, decrease the risks of load swinging and high-altitude bracing, and improve verticality control and connection stability through guided positioning mechanisms. The case analysis demonstrates benefits such as shortened construction duration, reduced overall cost, stable assembly quality, and zero accidents. The method is particularly suitable for high-rise steel structures, narrow construction sites, locations with limited crane access, and environments affected by high wind conditions. Nevertheless, the wider adoption of this method still faces challenges, including insufficient industry awareness, concerns about equipment rental costs, the need for operator training, limited standardization of operating procedures, and variations in applicability across different column types and site conditions. Therefore, this study recommends strengthening pre-construction planning, equipment selection, synchronized jacking control, wind-speed monitoring, quality inspection, and third-party verification. It also suggests establishing standardized construction manuals and training systems. Overall, the cable-free method is not merely a replacement of construction equipment but an important pathway for advancing steel construction toward safer, more standardized, intelligent, and digitalized practices. |
