  • Abstract Under the goal of sustainable development, many countries need much more energy to be used all around the world. Now new energy called ˇ§renewable resourcesˇ¨ are solar energy, wind energy, subterranean heat, hydraulic power etc., and it is utilized more and more.
    This study firstly estimated the roof areas of buildings on the hangar roof in the two northern airports are the Taipei Songshan Airport, Hsinchu Air Force Base, and the southern airport is Pingtung Airport in Taiwan, where are adequate for installing solar energy generating system. According to local solar radiation, the annual outputs of electricity and thermal energy have been estimated with the aid of geographic information system.
    Economic evaluation focused on the analyses of incentives such as return on investment. Based on the analysis, Pingtung Airport, located in the sunny area, provides the highest photovoltaic benefits, but is not very different from the northern airports. The results of these studies can be used for decision making in public and private sectors.
