  • Abstract This research investigates a new type of pigsty, using the Taiwan Sugar Agricultural Circular Pig Farm renovation project as a case study. The goal is to upgrade traditional pig-sties to negative-pressure, cooling-pad-equipped pigsties. This design deeply integrates con-cepts of greening, energy conservation, renewable energy, and resource recycling to achieve the four major indicators of green building.
The main structure of the new pigsty uses a modular steel frame with independent con-crete foundation columns. Its design considers the needs of pigs at different growth stages and the harsh internal environment of the pigsty (high humidity, various organic gases). Therefore, all building materials must possess properties like acid-alkali resistance, corro-sion prevention, and high durability.
The study provides a detailed comparison of the characteristics and suitability of vari-ous building materials, including steel structures, foundation concrete, flooring, slatted fences, wall panels, and roofing. Through a comprehensive compilation of the building ma-terials and equipment used in the new pigsty, the following conclusions were drawn:
1.Pigsty flow: The new pigsty's layout and flow are arranged according to the pig's growth cycle. Separate passages are used for moving pigs and for deceased pigs.
2.Structural design: The facility features a symmetrical, continuous steel structure, known as a "Dapeng structure." The roof utilizes a truss system, and the wall panels must be designed to support the weight of exhaust fans and externally mounted cooling pads.
3.Type V cement concrete is utilized for the ground surface. Grates are constructed from sulfuric acid-resistant, corrosion-resistant, high-strength stainless steel. It is recommended that FRP coating be applied to the collection pits and protective covers be installed on the railings.
4.Insulation: The wall panels use insulated sandwich panels. The ceiling requires a higher thermal insulation coefficient than the walls.
5.Chapter 5 proposes detailed improvements for floor construction and grate design.
This research also presents a flowchart for inspecting steel structural components upon arrival. This process ensures the construction quality of steel-framed livestock buildings. Details of the construction process will be recorded to serve as a valuable reference for future livestock facility construction.
