    Abstract
    This thesis studies the implementation of a switched reluctance motor drive for the electrical mobility scooters. The thesis proposed a modified split dc supply converter. A diode is connected in serial with each battery of the converter. And the super capacitors are connected in parallel with the original capacitor to improve the charging capacity for the retrieved energy. Moreover, the problems of the over voltage and unbalanced voltages of the capacitors are solved by using the super capacitors. Because the retrieved currents of the windings will not recharge batteries, the number of charge/discharge cycles is reduced and the battery life is longer. Next, the thesis implemented a full digital drive system by using a 32bit digital signal processor (DSP). The electrical commutation, current and speed closed loop controllers are realized by the DSP. Furthermore, the switched reluctance drive is applied to an electric mobility scooter and the maximum speed of the scooter is 10km/hr. Finally, some simulation and experimental results validate the exactitude and the practicability of the proposed control method.
