Abstract |
In recent years, the gap between industry (need) and academia (supply) in Taiwan is getting bigger. In order to improve this phenomenon, the Workforce Development Agency (WDA) of Ministry of Labor starts to promote the development of occupational competency standard analysis and related curriculum. The WDA hopes to build the competency database for all industries through the efforts from all sectors and make these competency standards as important references for the training program or curriculum. The main purposes of this study are: First, complete the competency analysis by the general interview and DACUM methods and finish the Occupational Competency Standard (OCS) table. Second, review and list the usual practical problems that happen in the process and propose some useful suggestions. After deep interviews with five industry experts and verbatim analysis, researcher gets the O*Net data as a triangulation tool and organizes an expert meeting which composed by four other industry experts and one academia expert. After sufficient discussing the interviewing data and O*Net data, the experts complete the OCS table. By reviewing the process, there are three practical problems with the suggested solutions: First, because of the respondents' personal characteristics or environmental constraints and time limit, resulting in insufficient interaction between researcher and respondents, it is necessary to strengthen the researcherˇ¦s interview training, and find a mutually acceptable timing for interviews. Second, all the definition of nouns from the OCS table must be clear enough for the experts, or it will likely to lose focus in the discussion, resulting in incorrectness of the content. Third, the researcher must understand the overall competency analysis methods and processes, otherwise it will likely fall into the surficial data finishing, rather than real competency construction. |
