  • Abstract The Qiwentang Liu Family Ancestral Hall in Dapinglin was established in 1879 in the Shisizhang area of Xindian. Together with the Liji Gong Residence and Wenjitang, it was affected by the land acquisition for the New Taipei Circular Line MRT project and the Yangbei District Land Readjustment Project. Owing to its significance in Taiwan¡¦s pioneering settlement history and the value of its traditional architecture, the complex was successively designated as a Historic Building. Its relocation and reconstruction project has since become the largest historic building relocation and reconstruction project in northern Taiwan¡C
This study takes the Shisizhang Historic Building Park in Xindian, with the Qiwentang Liu Family Ancestral Hall as its primary case study. It comprehensively documents the process of the preservation project and examines three major aspects: (1) the historical background of the ancestral hall, (2) the relocation and preservation process of the historic residence, and (3) the conservation status of the ancestral hall following its relocation¡C
This study found that the relocation and reconstruction of historic traditional residences offer several advantages, including (1) centralized management, (2) improved structural safety, and (3) enhanced opportunities for adaptive reuse and cultural education. However, the process also presents several disadvantages, including (1) the loss of historical context, (2) the inability to preserve the buildings in their original setting
