  • Abstract In order to investigate the effect of adding nano-powder on the crystallization of the glass matrix, this study uses the Taguchi method, four factors and three levels were chosen for the experimental parameters. The four factors are three types of nano-powder MgO, TiO2, ZrO2 and sintering temperature, The three levels are the amount of nano powder added (1, 1.5, 3wt.%) and the three sintering temperatures (670, 690, 710¢J), respectively. The nine groups of sintered specimens were subjected to XRD analysis, radial shrinkage measurement, hardness measurement, wearing test, impact test and SEM observation. The DSC thermal analysis of the glass powder revealed that the glass transition temperature (Tg) was 748¢J. The TGA thermal analysis of the diamond revealed that the diamond began to deteriorate at 623¢J. XRD analysis observed the diffraction peaks that corresponded to the nano powder, but the diffraction peaks of the crystallization glass phase were not observed. The hardness of the sintered specimen is correlated with the radial shrinkage, but the impact value is greatly deviated maybe due to the influence of the pores in the glass. SEM surface observation found that adding a high proportion of nano-powder and using a higher sintering temperature can improve the bonding between the glass phases.
