  • Abstract In this study, gaseous mercury was sampled at Mountain Hehuan in Nantou City from December 2010 to August 2011. These samples were analyzed by the gaseous mercury analyzer to find out the factors related the concentration of gaseous mercury.
The results indicated that the average concentration of the gaseous mercury is from 1.26 to 2.10 ng/m3 and the concentration is higher at daytime than at nighttime. Especially, the concentration changed as the temperature. The concentration reached the highest at 13:00. The result shows that when the wind speed is higher, the concentration of the gaseous mercury is lower. The correlation coefficient is -0.38, because the gaseous mercury is diluted by the wind blow.
The concentration of gaseous mercury is related to the wind direction. The wind direction of Mountain Hehuan is southwest wind and the concentration of gaseous mercury is about 1.23 to 1.78 ng/m3.
Based on the results, there is no serious pollution and the sampling site is suitable to monitor the biomass burning pollutants from Southeast Asia in long-distance transmission.
