Abstract | In this study, the performance improvement of the aged leachate treatment plant was carried out in Northern Taiwan. The monthly rainfall volume of waste water, electricity consumption, volume of sludge cake, water quality of processing units from 2008 to 2010 were analyzed to understand the efficiency of each processing unit and optimal operation parameters for the whole plant. Previously, the plan operator focused on chemical coagulation system. Although the results of treated water quality were accepted, large amounts of chemical sludge were produced as well. to cause heavy loading for landfill. The landfill was operated for almost twenty years and it was at late methanation stage. at this stage, the concentrations of BOD, COD and NH3 were lower. Due to lower removal rate of BOD, the unit dealing with activated sluge was not operated. To achieve the optimal operation parameters, the plant operator focus on the biological treatment unit and switch traditional activated sludge to the anaerobic/aerobicˇ]A/Oˇ^activated sludge with extended aeration. Thus, the nitrification and denitrification were happened, the concentrations of NH3 were decreased and the activated sludge was generated stably. The tests of BOD suppression, solids matrix and Fenton oxidation were carried out as well. The results suggested that be the Fenton oxidation could be used followed by biological to promote the efficiency of the whole plant. |
