  • Abstract Our country extremely depends on importing energy from other countries. With the development of economy, the demand of energy has grown up very fast in the past 20 years. The consumption of energy in Taiwan was 48,040,000 kiloliter oil equivalent in 1989, and it had grown up to 113,090,000 kiloliter oil equivalent in 2009. The average growth rate was 4.37% during the past 20 years. The average energy consumption rate of each person has grown 3.7% per year. The annual average growth rate of each person's power consumption was 4.5% every year. For those reasons, energy-saving is the present important subject.
    According to the information of finally energy consumption, the electric energy accounts for fifty percent roughly. The energy-using rate of residence building is the major part of electric consumption, which has not yet included other kinds of buildings. If we consider energy-saving from building, which would has large effect. If we can reduce using air-conditioner, it was extremely helpful for energy-saving of building. We try to reduce indoor temperature, which would reduce the utility rate of air-conditioner. To improve indoor temperature, we should strengthen the thermal insulation efficiency of the outside wall. We discuss the thermal insulation efficiency of the outside wall of the building as the theme.
    The kind of outside walls are various in domestic building. The outside walls of the buildings are mainly the glass curtain wall and the material of granite. The research is experimenting on the luster of granite, processing kinds, and the construction methods to discuss the better energy-saving combination of outside wall.
    According to the result of study, the stone material of the outer wall of the green building should be light-colored as primarily choice in the tropical zone and sunny area of subtropical zone. It could reduce that building absorb extra light-energy, which cause the power consumptive waste of the air-conditioner. If we in the frigid-zone climate country, the building stone material of the outer wall could choose dark-colored. That would increase the warm-preserved effect of the building. Although the outer wall adopts transparent glass which provides some day-lighting, its effect is not good to separates or absorbs the light-energy. That should be used properly in the design of the green building. As to Taiwan subtropics climate, the wall is composed of the dry-based construction method (multi-layer wall structure), light-colored, and smooth granite has better thermal insulation effect.
