Abstract | One of the common building frame types in Taiwan is steel. Factory managers usually select it as the main frame for their factory construction to save the cost; however, such building material is considered less fire-resistant an. Once a fire breaks out, it may cause great loss of life and enormous damage to properties. Therefore, the main concern of the thesis is to seek effective rescue solutions to minimize the damage from such fires. The research begins with the exploration of fire prevention. It can be understood through the study of existing domestic laws, particularly on the regulations of steel warehouse buildings and factory fire safety management. Then, from the perspective of fire rescue solutions, the research introduces the existing firefighting trucks and fire safety equipment, and also studies the tactics that fireground commanders are applying, the standard operating procedures for hazardous chemicals and the mechanism of safety management. Each and every section plays an important role in offering firefighters the protections against fires. Finally, the research analyzes the cases in which some members of the firefighting team died while in-duty. It finds that most tragedies resulted from the violation of the guiding principles, the use of wrong tactics and the neglect of the signs of danger in steel warehouse fires. According to the conclusion drawn in this study, the effective rescue solutions rely on multiple factors. First, to strengthen the relevant government regulations can improve the safety standard of steel buildings. Next, it is advised to purchase thermal imaging cameras for danger detection and damage reduction because the fire in the steel warehouses is far more destructive than others. Then, rescuers must strictly follow the guidelines of safety management when fighting the fires, which is crucial to the security of their lives. Last and not least, the replenishment of professional firefighting labor is key to a successful fire rescue mission. |
