Title | The Development of Solar Tractor of Concentrator Photovoltaic Panel | ||
Keyword | |||
Abstract | The purpose of this thesis is to develop a solar tractor of concentrator photovoltaic panel. The proposed technique of this solar tracking system uses a quadrant detector, X-Z dual axis mechanism and controller. The quadrant detector is to sense the sun light of solar altitude-azimuth. It splits a focused image into four parts or quadrants, with the light in each quadrant being separately detected. The image position is by definition centered on the detector when these four signals are equal in intensity while an imbalance implies a centering error. The error signal drives DC motor and X-Z dual axis mechanism to revise solar altitude-azimuth. The Z-axis of X-Z dual axis mechanism is a vertical pivot shaft that allows the device to be swung to an altitude angle, and the X-axis is a horizontal elevation pivot mounted upon the azimuth platform. By using combinations of these two axes, any location in the upward hemisphere may be pointed. The solar tractor may be operated under single chip controlled according to the quadrant detector error signal to control DC motor through the speed reducer mechanism, and drives the panel towards the sun. Finally, a practical solar tractor is accomplished to test and verify the proposed technique enhancing the tracking ability of concentrator photovoltaic panel |
