| Abstract | Since the revision of the Emergency Medical Services Act and the Fire Services Act in 1995, Taiwan has officially integrated emergency medical services into the fire department system, forming a fire-based prehospital care model. Emergency Medical Technician¡VParamedics, as the highest-level providers on scene, can administer medications and perform advanced airway procedures, playing a key role in emergency patient care. This study investigates the practices and outcomes of Emergency Medical Technician¡VParamedics through a case study of the Fourth Rescue and Emergency Medical Services Division of the New Taipei City Fire Department. A total of 41,859 EMS cases from 2023 to 2024 were analyzed to examine personnel deployment, equipment allocation, and the management of critical cases, including cardiac arrest, acute coronary syndrome, seizures, and shock. Results indicate that urban areas have better resource availability and higher survival rates, while mountainous and suburban regions face challenges such as limited staffing, long transport times, and inadequate equipment. The study recommends implementing relay support, a dual-dispatch model, and improved staffing and equipment strategies to enhance care quality and reduce urban¡Vrural disparities. |
