  • Abstract Taipei MRT system is built mostly underground or close to buildings due to the domain limit and the population density of the metropolis. The nearby residents are constantly suffering from the vibrations and noises when the trains passing through. After evaluation, floating slab track (FST) is considered to be the most effective system in reducing noises and has been first introduced to XinZhuang LuZhou Line. However, in regard of the high cost of FST and overall economic benefits, the vibration and noise reducing demand can be further divided into 3 levels of the railway sections ¡V basic, moderate and advanced level. In the moderate level of railways, non-ballasted track with high isolation (NBHI) has been adopted to XinYi Line for the first time to solve the vibration and noise issue.
This study is based on XinYi Line¡¦s NBHI adoption analysis process and its performance evaluation. It angles from the material types, specifications, quality assurance to testing results, also has viewpoints on compatibly, construction productivity and cost efficiency.
The research indicates the main reason to adopt rail fastener system with low spring rate is the high compatibility to existing system, cost effective on construction and maintenance. The progress of construction is easy to control and a standard process of quality testing also contributed to that conclusion. The vibration and noise reducing review also shows a positive result for the specification requirement. Furthermore, the study proposed to have a full-scale plan to adopt new system during its designing stage ¡V the schedule of pre-integration, testing and preparation needed to be more comprehensive and thorough. elastic baseplate low spring rate with high isolation is compatible to be used in operating railways as well as newly planned systems. By leveraging the implementation experience of XinYi Line, it can be an important reference to Taipei MRT or other railways when considering
adoption new systems to be more economic beneficial and effective.
