Abstract |
In this research, the material used for the embossing roller is SUJ2. The embossing roller is one of the important components of the tissue paper production machine. The quality standard of the produced tissue paper depends on the weariness and durability of the embossing roller. Currently, the service lifetime of the embossing roller made in-house is only two and half months before becoming inoperable. To understand the causes of wearing and damage and to increase its durable lifetime, the research process utilized a spectrometer to analyze the material composition currently used for the embossing roller; then used a high magnification optical microscope to observe the material microstructure and weariness; applied the hardness tester to measure the surface hardness of the embossing roller; and finally used a scanning electron microscope to observe the change in the microstructure and wearing conditions. The observation reveals that the internal base distribution of the embossing roller made in-house is not uniform, whereas those of the embossing rollers made in Germany, Japan and Korea are uniform. In addition, the embossing roller made in-house has been through the quenching and tempering treatment to increase its hardness thus causing damages to the roller. On the other hand, embossing rollers made in Germany, Japan and Korea are not quenched and tempered treatment and are both high surface hardness and high toughness. Therefore, the manufacturing process was simplified and improved, and produced new embossing rollers to be tested in the machine operation. So far, the test time has exceeded the original two and half months. Therefore, the new manufacturing process reduces the quenching and tempering process and increases the quality. |
