Title | The corrosion behaviors of underground galvanized steel gas pipeline |
||
Keyword | |||
Abstract | Although there are many kinds of materials used as the underground gas pipeline, galvanized steel pipes are still the major ones applied in the underground gas transportation system. Great cautions and concerns must be considered to the pipeline since the nature gas transported is flammable and risky to public safety. The corrosion reactions of galvanized steel pipes are various and closely influenced by the underground environments. Thus the corrosion induced damage of galvanized steel is strongly related to the on-site environment. Therefore, the corrosion prevention methods of underground galvanized steel gas pipeline are very important. This study focused on the corrosion behaviors of underground galvanized steel gas pipeline. The microstructures of corroded pipeline were examined by optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM).The corrosion products were analyzed by XˇVray Diffractometer (XRD).The chemical compositions of corrosion products were evaluated by energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) and electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA), respectively. The possible corrosion mechanism of underground galvanized steel gas pipeline was thus proposed. Some critical issues regarding the material selection, design, environmental, processing, maintenance and corrosion preventions were also suggested in this work. |
