Title | Strategies of Fire-Fighting in Narrow Alleys:A Case Study of Banqiao, New Taipei City | ||
Keyword | |||
Abstract | With the rapid development of Taiwan's economy and implementation of the government¡¦s urban renewal policy, high buildings are under construction, population is concentrated and the land that people could use are saturated in Taiwan. Therefore, issues of firefighting in the metropolises have risen. Above all, firefighting for urban narrow alleys is one of the most difficult tasks, often because of the width of the ally is not long enough or illegal parking of motors and motorcycles in the alleys. These reasons may delay the emergency response time and cause huge property damage and loss of life. A questionnaire survey was used in the study. The fire captain, fire lieutenant and firefighters in Banqiao Distric, New Taipei City were the target population. The questionnaire was separated into two parts. In the first part, each interviewee was asked to define the areas difficult for rescue and predict the estimated time of arrival. Furthermore, the predicted times were arranged and compared to the real time of arrival. In the other part, we collected and analyzed the concept of fire engines and equipment from the firefighters in the first line. Moreover, these data were used to evaluate the feasibility of firefighting strategies. The results of this study can be an aid and useful reference to disaster planning and rescue tasks for narrow alley fire. |
