Abstract |
With the growing depletion of fossil fuels, there is urgent need for development for new and alternative energy sources. While such development takes time, fuel economy is equally important. Without changing the engine design, this study explored the use of automobile voltage regulator for reducing fuel consumption. Variations in fuel efficiency with voltage regulator of different capacitances used in different automobiles were examined. Experimental results show that fuel efficiency increased 4.6% in a 2005 Honda CR-V equipped with a voltage regulator of 30000pF capacitance, reaching 12.32 km per liter of gasoline. In 1992 Volvo 850, the use of a voltage regulator of 40000pF capacitance can increase 7.3% of fuel efficiency, reaching 10.53 km per liter of gasoline. These results demonstrate that use of voltage regulator of different capacitances can increase fuel efficiency in automobile. |
