Title | A study on the impact of brief mindfulness intervention on mindfulness, psychological resilience and subjective well-being of higher vocational students | ||
Keyword | |||
Abstract | This study aimed to investigate the effects of a brief mindfulness intervention on mindfulness, resilience, and subjective well-being among vocational high school students. The participants were 166 senior students from a vocational high school in Taipei City. The intervention involved a 10-minute mindfulness meditation practice after class, once a week, for a total of 18 weeks. Three self-compiled questionnaires, namely the Subjective Well-Being Scale, Resilience Scale, and Mindfulness Scale, were administered before and after the intervention. Demographic variables were also collected to examine their influence. The results showed that: (1) After the mindfulness meditation program, students' subjective well-being and resilience significantly improved, but the impact on mindfulness performance was not significant. (2) Subjective well-being, resilience, and mindfulness were significantly positively correlated, with the highest correlation between subjective well-being and resilience. (3) Among the demographic variables, parenting style had the greatest impact on students' subjective well-being and mindfulness performance, with authoritarian parenting being significantly lower than democratic parenting; birth order and family economic status did not reach significant influence. The findings support the benefits of incorporating mindfulness meditation into the school curriculum to promote the mental health of vocational high school students. However, its long-term impact on mindfulness performance remains to be clarified. Future research should extend the follow-up period and include physiological indicators to further examine the effects of mindfulness training on physical and mental health. Additionally, it is recommended to enhance parents' knowledge of mindful parenting and foster a democratic and harmonious parent-child interaction, making mindfulness a facilitator for the holistic development of vocational high school students. The results of this study can serve as a reference for education authorities, school administrators, teachers, and parents in promoting mindfulness education and cultivating students' resilience and well-being. |
