Abstract | The study primarily explores the problems related to academic study, life adaptation, and the situation of overcoming life difficulties by Vietnamese students studying at Southeast University in Taiwan. In the study, questionnaires were adopted to supplement relevant documents with qualitative personal interviews and participantˇ¦s observations, hence it has become the basis of the data analysis. There are six dimensions, that is, cultural background, language learning, academic study, diet, climate, economic factors, friends making, homesickness and other issues. The results of the study found that there are four issues for Vietnamese students adapt to life: 1. Language barriers: (1) Insufficient confidence in their language proficiency. (2) When encountering polyphonic and polysemy in Chinese, it will cause a multitude of misunderstandings. (3) Cannot understand Taiwanese completely. 2. Financial Status: the family supply is commonly insufficient; it is necessary for students to have a part-time job. They can earn tuition fees and living expenses thus. 3. Socializing: it is not easy for them to make either local students or friends from other countries, their friends are mostly compatriot. 4. Diet and Climate adaptation: the majority of students are not accustomed to Taiwanese cuisine, they are all miss Vietnamese dishes. In addition, the sudden changes in temperature, they are maladaptive in Taiwanese climate. According to the study, the researcher further makes meaningful recommendations: 1.Giving freshmen instructions in daily life. 2.Providing individual psychological counseling if necessary. 3.Proving Taiwanese student companions while studying. 4.Organizing social gathering which have Vietnamese unique culture. |
