  • Abstract This paper will examine the variation of run-up and reflection on stepped embankment in the wave flume. It's carried out to verify the performance of stepped embankment in the coastal hazard mitigation under various conditions of stepped embankment, wave height and frequency.
According to the result of experiments and analysis, it's proved the height of run-up could be lower if the stepped embankment is placed along the coast. Compared with it, the run-up on the smooth chute is higher. Basically, the higher the frequency, but the height of run-up won't get higher significantly if the ratio of rise and run is 1:7.5.
Before the experiment, the writer thought not only the performance of wave energy dissipator will be better but the height of run-up will be lower if the stepped embankment is bigger and the slope is more gentle. However, the actual result is the height of run-up won't get lower if the slope is more gentle. That's because frequency (wave length) and slope are the variation factors. Thus, this paper will research into the best condition of energy dissipator via the various conditions of frequency, slope and stepped embankment.
