  • Abstract Personal protecting equipment is important to firefighters to perform fire rescue. After being distributed to firefighters, protecting equipment may lose complete protection functions if they are not regularly tested for their protective performance and subsequent maintenance management. This study summarizes and analyzes a cleaning, inspection, replacement management plan for personal protecting equipment and better rules to set personal protecting equipment wardrobe that meet the needs of the first-line firefighters, by conducting a questionnaire survey, visiting the setting of personal protecting equipment wardrobe layout of each team, drawing a research plan of the hard-working floor plan, doing fire-fighting clothing experiment, and interviewing expert. This study can provide a reference for government to regulate rules in the future.
This study found that most respondents believe that personal protecting equipment should be cleaned regularly by manufacturers or related organizations every six months, and inspected every one to two years. The replacement years for fire-fighting clothing, hats and shoes should be more appropriate for five, five and three years respectively, and should establish a management system and related SOPs to facilitate proper maintenance of the equipment. The fire department should plan and set up personal protecting equipment wardrobe in a unified manner, and meet the needs of appropriate location, convenient layout and needs of ventilation and material durability. The location and space of the wardrobe should be reserved when designing the fire department building. The wardrobe should be set at the end of the working line to reduce the time of dispatch. The personal protecting equipment should be hung by the hanger, which is less likely to cause damage to them.
