Keyword | |||
Abstract | The demand of long-term care institution has gradually escalated recently as Taiwan evolved into aging society; on that note, the capability of relevant facility providing comfort and safe long-term care institution has become an important issue whether to the relatives, management of long-term care institution or the overall society. The space for the elderly requires special design with specific care method. This study involved residential facilities which provide long-term care services, including assisted living facilities, continuing care retirement communities and nursing homes. Since long-term care legislation adopted in 2017, it generally defines area capacity, length and institution equipment; however, it can rarely reflect the special needs of space arrangement. Many issues need consideration for the institution, such as space security, amenity and the ability of taking care the physiology and psychology of the elderly. Given a safe and good working condition to care givers in the facilities is also of great importance. This study focused on the device arrangement and space design of the long-term institution, the clarification on the application of installation process and its relevant regulation may serve as a reference for future operators and practitioners. Besides, through the comparison and analysis with foreign long-term care facilities investigate space design, equipment function, environmental element application and atmosphere creation. Based on literature review and case studies, the long-term care in this study included two categories: primary space and affiliated space. Through the case studies, the quality of space design included three levels. The analysis result was applied to form a checklist for the long-term care institution, hoping to provide a reference for relevant units and practitioners by setting up inspection indicators. In the light of this, the study encouraged the practitioners to change from being passive inspected into active self-examination and willing to provide information and guidelines for the residences and relatives to choose the suitable long-term care institution. Utilizing a simple inspection concept of the evaluation on space quality from the autonomy and the user oversight can accomplish the goal of quality improvement. If one knows how to apply space elements for design, the quality of space can be improved significantly. Subsequently, the quality of life is elevated. Eventually, the ideal result is to make it a much more comfortable and safer caring space surrounded by happiness and belonging for senior citizens residents. |
