Title Study of Cost Analysis For Dual Prestressed Box Girder With Twin Piers and Single Pier

  • Abstract This study aims to explore the design of pre-stressed box girder bridge type and cost analysis, and to propose a cost comparison and detailed design reference to help the designers make the right choice.
    The construction methods commonly used in bridge erection are (1) movable scaffolding systems, (2) cast-in-place balanced cantilever, (3) full span cast-in-place on temporary scaffoldings, (4) full span precast or precast segmental construction, etc. The choice of construction method should take into account the topography and elevation of the area, the traffic maintenance and other factors.
    Public Construction Commission, to assist government agencies and civil society as well as for preparation of project budget estimates and other valuation experience, developed in recent years, "Valuation of public works funded computer system" (referred to as PCCES, Public Construction Cost Estimating System), to estimate operating expenses for public works more open and transparent.
    This study used the PCCES software to evaluate the construction cost of two selected pre-stressed concrete bridges of a coastal highway in Western Taiwan: a twin single-cell box girder on twin piers (two parallel box girders) and a single double-cell box girder on single pier.
    The research results help select the best choice between a twin box girder bridge and a single large box girder bridge for different selection criteria.
